Ukrainian President Zelenskyy vows not to betray national interests amidst intense US pressure to accept a peace plan, as President-elect Trump issues a November 27 deadline for Kyiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has declared he will not betray his country's national interests as the United States ramps up pressure on Kyiv to accept a peace plan designed to end the Russian invasion. The statement comes as President-elect Donald Trump reportedly set a strict deadline for the plan's acceptance.
Zelenskyy implicitly criticized the proposal, which reportedly involves significant concessions to Russia, framing the situation as a stark choice between preserving Ukraine's honor or risking the loss of its primary ally. "Ukraine is experiencing one of the most difficult periods in its history... I will not betray Ukraine," Zelenskyy stated.
Zelenskyy consults with JD Vance
Amidst the tension, President Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation with US Vice President-elect JD Vance to discuss the details of the alleged 28-point peace plan drafted by the incoming US administration.
Following the call, Zelenskyy noted that they managed to discuss numerous details of the proposal. "We are trying to make the path forward valuable and truly effective for achieving a lasting peace," he said. While thanking the US for its support, Zelenskyy indicated that Ukrainian and American advisors would continue working together to make the peace process operational, with officials working around the clock.
Trump's ultimatum: November 27
In a televised interview, President-elect Donald Trump issued a deadline for Ukraine to accept the peace terms. "I have set many 'deadlines,' but if things are going well, these dates are usually postponed. However, I think Thursday (November 27) is a suitable time," Trump remarked.
Dismissing Kyiv's concerns about territorial concessions, Trump argued that the current situation is already dire. "They are already losing territory right now. 25,000 people lost their lives between the parties last month. This situation is out of control. It is a complete bloodbath," he asserted.
Putin's warning and approval
Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at an event in Moscow, signaled his approval of the US initiative, stating, "I think this plan can be the basis for a final peaceful solution."
However, Putin issued a stern warning to Kyiv and Western leaders. "If Kyiv does not want to consult on President Trump's proposals and rejects them... they must understand that what happened in Kupyansk will inevitably happen in other key areas of the front," Putin threatened. He added that while the process might not be as fast as desired, further Russian military gains would be "inevitable" if the deal is rejected.
Reports indicate that Washington has threatened to cut off intelligence sharing and military aid to Ukraine if the 28-point plan is not accepted by the deadline.
